WE NEED TO TALK!

A love of cycle racing unites us. The environment binds us to each other.

2. BRITAIN'S FIRST CYCLING CITY

Twelve English towns and cities will receive £100m under a government scheme intended to increase the number of people cycling.

Bristol has been named as the UK's first "cycling city" after pledging to double the number of people biking on its streets over three years.

The city will receive £11.4m, rising to £23m after three years, to create the UK's first on-street bike rental network, modelled on the successful Paris scheme. The aims are to,

Create the UK's first on-street bike rental network.

Establish a 're-cycling' scheme that repairs bikes and provides them free of charge to deprived communities.

Build state-of-the-art facilities for cyclists commuting to the city centre.

Create a dedicated cycleway to link the suburbs with the city centre.

More than double the number of children receiving cycling training.

Develop a Personalised Travel Plan programme, focusing on changing the way people conduct short journeys to work.

3. DO SOMETHING YOU THINK YOU CAN'T DO

Nicky writes, WE ARE WHAT WE DO is a new movement inspiring people to use their everyday actions to change the world. Not moving mountains, more of a gentle nudge.

Action 32 from their inspiring little book, Change the World for Fiver is "Do Something You Think You Can't Do". So I've decided to learn to ride my bike, and write about it.
